In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it?

My creative process can be all over the map. I get my best inspiration from the authors who write so many wonderful stories. I had been just posting on Tumblr, not too worried if my art wasn’t appreciated because it would disappear into the ether, so to speak. But then [personal profile] squidgiepdx and [personal profile] elderwitty wrote ‘Merry-Go-Round’ which is set in San Francisco. I lived in SF for 8 years and I know the bar that is featured in the story. I had to create art for the story. And then [personal profile] respoftw wrote a few stories that I was estatic about. Those were ‘easy’ because the pictures in my mind were fully formed. When I get an idea of my own, I’ll look for images that convey my ideas and fuss around with them playing until the images come together. Then I use the ‘collage’ as a reference and paint.

If I am doing a portrait, I start with the eyes, if they turn out, I know the rest should come out just fine. Once I think the piece is finished, I set it aside for several days. When I come back to it, I always work a bit more on it. There is always something that needs more attention. And, occasionally no matter how hard I try the work just becomes 'wood stove fire starter' 😜
